or bachelor’s degree in nursing and be pursuing an advanced course in
nurse-midwifery. Applications may be submitted, along with a letter of
acceptance from the program and a resume, by August 1, 1998. Awards are
made once a year. Preference is given to candidates planning to practice

Registered nurses who seek further study in nursing. Men and
women qualifying for these awards are expected to study in an NLN-accredited master's
program at a college or university of their choice. The amount and number of awards are
determined each year on the basis of availability of funds and qualifications of
applicants, ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. Awards are based on academic criteria and
potential for leadership in the nursing community. Applicants are required to be citizens
of the United States or to have declared official intention of becoming a citizen. In
addition, they must be members of a national professional nursing organization. Each
scholarship application requires GRE or MAT scores. Deadline for mailing applications is
February 1. Application kits are available August 1 and the deadline for completion of all
applications is February 1 preceding the academic year for which the awards are made.
Scholarship kits are $5 to cover the cost of postage and handling. |

Traineeships are awarded to currently licensed professional
nurses through grants to (1) public or private nonprofit institutions providing master's
and doctoral degree programs to educate nurses to serve as nurse practitioners, nurse
educators, or other nursing specialists in medically underserved communities especially;
and (2) public or private nonprofit schools of nursing and other entities to educate
nurses as nurse-midwives. Trainees are selected by participating training institutions in
accordance with the institution's admission policies and the purpose of the traineeship
program. Traineeships provide for tuition and fees as established by the training
institution and stipends up to $8,800 per year for a maximum of 36 months of study.
Candidates must be U.S. citizens, or lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent
residence; graduates of a state-approved school of nursing; currently licensed as RNs; and
able to enroll for full-time study. Awards are made by participating schools, which
includes most graduate nursing programs. Traineeship applications must be made directly to
the school, not to the Division of Nursing. |

Must agree to provide primary care services in a priority health professional shortage
area for a minimum of two years. You may extend the obligation beyond the required two
years for on year at a time. Must be an U.S. citizen with a valid, unrestricted Sate
license and/or certificate to practice in the State where you plan to serve.
Benefits: Qualified educational
loans are repaid at a maximum of $25,000 per year for the required initial
two-year contract period. Additional one-year extensions, for existing
qualified educational loans, may be awarded at qualifying sites for a
maximum $35,000 per year. Plus – a payment equal to 39 percent of the
total loan repayments made during the taxable year involved to assist in
payment of tax liabilities incurred. Plus – a competitive salary and
