Text Box: In this issue, we conclude with the remaining three segments of the Partnerships in Science Education Pipleine (PSEP).

Additionally this month’s newsletter focuses on the partnership links of the PSEP program which are:

 Caddo School District
 The Sci Fi Port Discovery Center.
The BioMedical Text Box: Research Foundation.
 Louisiana State University, Shreveport.
Funding.

Each of these links provide a vital role in sustaining this program. 

The benefits of PSEP will provide school children the tools to succeed  academically. Also students will be better prepared to compete in the fields of science, and engineering.

LSUHSC Physician Assistant Program
Text Box:  This is the fourth segment of the “Pipeline”, designed to stimulate in minority/disadvantaged, undergraduate level students the desire to pursue careers in medicine, basic biomedical research or Allied Health professions.  Ten college students are chosen for participation.  These students are selected based upon the following criteria:

?	Letter of Recommendation
Text Box: ?	Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or other related science major
?	Grades
?	GPA of 3.0 and above
?	Louisiana resident
?	Residence within a commutable distance of LSUHSC

Participants are exposed to eight weeks of intense hands-on research activities conducted by LSUHSC faculty, and at the completion of the program are required to present during a poster session.  They are required to demonstrate: ability to Text Box: evaluate scientific data as it relates to their summer’s activities; ability to discuss research findings to other scientists; and scientific writing skills.  During the eight weeks, participants attend weekly seminars, departmental lectures and journal clubs.  

Personnel involved in this program include an Education coordinator, Louisiana college/university pre-med advisors, and LSUHSC faculty and staff.
