COURSE DESCRIPTION
Designed
to provide a basis for making clinical decisions
in the pharmacologic management of commonly occuring
health problems of primary care patients.
Prerequisite: Undergraduate course in
pharmacology; admission to the graduate nursing
program; NURS 6003 or concurrent enrollment.
OBJECTIVES
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this
course, the student will
be able to:
- Apply principles of
pharmacology relative to pharmacotherapeutics to primary care situations.
- Discuss indications, rationale, efficacy and risks
for commonly prescribed medications in primary care settings.
- Describe appropriate strategies for monitoring
the expected effects and potential adverse effects of
medications prescribed.
- Weigh factors such as cost, efficacy, age, quality of life to select the
appropriate medication for common primary care conditions.
