COURSE DESCRIPTION

Designed to provide a basis for making clinical decisions in the pharmacologic management of  commonly occuring health problems of primary care patients. 
Prerequisite:  Undergraduate course in pharmacology; admission to the graduate nursing program; NURS 6003 or concurrent enrollment.

 

OBJECTIVES

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of this course, the student will
be able to:

  1. Apply principles of pharmacology relative to pharmacotherapeutics to primary care situations.
  2. Discuss indications, rationale, efficacy and risks for commonly prescribed medications in primary care settings.
  3. Describe appropriate strategies for monitoring the expected effects and potential adverse effects of medications prescribed.
  4. Weigh factors such as cost, efficacy, age, quality of life to select the appropriate medication for common primary care conditions.
